Copyright literacy is an essential 21st century skill. However, copyright law in the digital age often seems like a gray murky ooze – a maze of potholes and quicksand that can suck the life out of an organization. It’s so easy to search/copy/paste/send – without considering who might own the rights to the content. We are all consumers and creators of copyrighted content; we need to know how to protect ourselves in both roles. The interactive session explores the vital role of basic copyright skills in minimizing an organization’s exposure to copyright infringement liability. Topics include an overview of copyright basics, addressing common myths/misunderstandings, formulating best practices for copyright risk management, and developing an action plan of next steps. The goal: Manage copyright – don't let it manage you. After attending this session, attendees will be able to explain/analyze myths and misunderstandings about copyright in the digital age, identify potential copyright-infringing practices, and apply the copyright concepts discussed in drafting guidelines to protect their organizations.
